seats in the train
Going to the lab really late today and because of that being able to sit comfortably in the train, I watched people came and got off. I saw that there was a tendency of people choosing the seat next to the door. In Japan, seats in local train are long seat, where 6-7 people can sit in the same seat, facing the other side of the train --and the other long seat--, not facing the way to where the train is going.
I just wondered why this tendency happens.
Even I myself, if it is still not taken, prefer the seat next to the door.
Maybe because there is a holder next to that seat so that I can put my hand, or my head (then sleep peacefully :p).
Or...
it is just because people always need "something" to lay on?

My opinions of why people prefer to sit on the edge of the seat:
1. Because it is on the edge, you won't have to worry about having to shift your sitting once-and-a-while when others want to sit at the empty space next to you.
2. (As you have mentioned) There is a holder that you could lay your head on.
3. It is closest to the door (as been mentioned by you also), so it will be easiest to come off the train.
Reason 1 makes the edge-seat preferred by those who used to sleep in the train.
Reason 2 makes the edge-seat preferred by those who used to sleep in the train.
Reason 3 makes the edge-seat preferred by those who used to sleep in the train. Should he/she wake up just right at the station where he/she is supposed to get down [this happened often :-)], he/she won't miss the door.
Hmm... remind me of someone who I (think I) know quite well .. ;-)

PS. "I think", because just like Wita said.. mistery seems to be one of the most interesting part of her :-).
Too many things in this world to be explored until we used to forget little things beside us need our attention...Just like we always let our computer stand by until we forget to give "our greatest computer" a little rest..and without telling us first, it will search a time&place to take a rest..finally..and maybe for it, the seat of the train is one of the best place..;p
PS: Physically head needs something to lay on..but if we talk about heart, "something" means someone:p as I lay mysely on your present..:)
