A surprise baby shower
I cannot thank enough for having such wonderful friends and colleagues!
Today is my last day at uni before my maternity leave. After a meeting with my supervisor this morning to discuss some practical stuffs, she asked me to come together to have a coffee break (in Holland, they have "fixed" coffee time around 10.30 and 15.30 where people usually come and have a chat). I wasn't suspicious at all, of course, since it's all normal daily life here.
But then I heard some noise from the coffee room. Hmm, so many people gathering, I wondered. I was trying to remember whether I received any emails announcing some celebration. Occasionally we have cakes from people who have birthday or other kind of things they want to share the happiness with. Then I came in and saw a lot of cookies (someone is definitely having a celebration, I thought), and a basket full of presents! I was looking around trying to figure out whose celebration it was.
Then they all shouted, "SURPRISE!!!!"
I was stunned.
It was all unexpected. Really, it was so nice (and very surprising), I didn't know what to say.
I still couldn't digest what was happening.
Then my supervisor said, "Since this is your last day before your maternity leave, we want to throw you a surprise baby shower..", then she continued, "we're all very sad that you're leaving for 4 months, but very happy that you're having a baby.."
....
That indeed was a very nice surprise. I was very touched by everything they did for me. They have been very kind to me during my pregnancy (yes, having experiments and being pregnant are actually not a very easy thing to do, but they have been helping me to make it possible), they didn't have to throw a party.
Thank you, Allah, for giving me such wonderful people around.
I know that the coming months when I'm back to work things are gonna be different, for sure, but it seems that I don't have enough reasons to worry.
If I am asked to name the best gifts I ever received in my life, I think I can say that one of them is having those people in a chapter of my life.
