Modesty is perhaps a good attribute; however, being too modest?
Program booklets for our angklung concert have just arrived from the printing company today. In time before the concert itself. We have spent so much hours working on this booklet, so I have been so curious how it turned out. It looks very nice, to my relief. By the way, when I said "we", this means: Rizki, the secretary of the group, with me demanding this and that, and complaining all the time.. although in the end we did sit together and finished it up :)
All info that people need to know about our concert is there. The history of angklung, the story about our angklung group and the supporting musicians (the choir and the soloists), who is our conductor, and who are the musicians. And of course, all the benefactors, we included all of them in the acknowledgement. As it is supposed to.
But then, if I think over, and then I ask myself: who are the organizers?
That's one thing missing. I can't find that info.
Perhaps the audience do not need to know who the organizers are. We (the board of the group/the organizers) work mostly behind the scene, and are happy with that. At least, I myself am content with that. Most of us are the musicians, anyway, so we are on there already, too. However, after all this hard work, I do think that acknowledging the board/the organizers in the booklets is an appropriate thing to do. I think I owe them at least that much, having spent so much time and energy for this very concert. Without their dedication, there won't be any concert.
We made the booklets ourselves, so perhaps that's the reason it was overlooked. It didn't occur to me at all before. And other board members whom I asked for their opinion about the booklets, didn't say anything about it. However, I think I shouldn't have missed that. This is our work together, and we earn it to be on there.
I remember my supervisor at the university told me similar things few months back. Not about angklung, of course. Anyway, she told me that I should "fight" more to get the credits that I have earned. Claim it, she said. I can't disagree.
Anyway, the booklets are printed. Lessons learned.
So, with this entry, I would like to specifically thank (not in particular order):
Ida Soesanti, Burhannudin Sutisna, Rizki Armanto Mangkuto, Nabil Ishak, Dina Wiyasti, Denny Damara, and Ibu Ine WawoRuntu. Oh, and of course, Amalia Sanusi, I wish you were here, too! We built this together!
You are one of the best people I have worked with.
Without you all, Angklung Eindhoven won't be here.
The concert is only 2 days away.. but if I don't say it now, I'm afraid this will be forgotten after all the post-concert euphoria.
Let's keep praying, and keep our hope up for the D-day where all hard work will hopefully be paid off, and the day when the dream comes true :)
